Abstract
The article provides a chronological account of Valtazar Bogisic's impact on the development of civil law codification in Japan. It identifies the key sources for the study in order to delve into the influence of Bogidic's 1888 General Property Code for the Principality of Montenegro on the Japanese civil codification process, divided into distinct chronological periods. The author examines the concept of legal transplants and discusses the role of aristocratic circles and cultural diplomacy in disseminating legal ideas and influences.
